چکیده
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition with higher prevalence in the elderly. A multinational survey of elderly men conducted America, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and England showed an association ED >12,000 aged 50-80. Relationship of age, prostate-specific antigen, and prostate volume in Indonesian men with benign prostatic hyperplasia
BACKGROUND To investigate the relationship between age, prostate specific antigen (PSA), and prostate volume (PV) in Indonesian men with histologically proven benign prostatic hyperplasia. METHODS Data were generated from our BPH database from June 1994 until December 2013. Subjects were men with a minimum age of 40 years with chief complaint of LUTS or urinary retention, diagnosed with BPH. ...
متن کاملTestosterone and benign prostatic hyperplasia
The use of testosterone to treat the symptoms of late-onset hypogonadal men has increased recently due to patient and physician awareness. However, concerns regarding the effect of testosterone on the prostate, in particular any possible effect on the risk of prostate cancer have prompted further research in this regard. Surprisingly, numerous retrospective or small, randomized trials have poin...
متن کاملStudy of Correlation between Prostate Specific Antigen and Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 Activity in Benign and Malignant Prostate Hyperplasia
There are emerging data on novel tumor markers such as matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2 or gelatinase-A), which play a key role in tissue invasion and metastasis. We designed an investigation to assess the usefulness of MMP-2 activity as compared to prostate specific antigen (PSA) in cancer staging process. We have analyzed the circulating form of MMP-2 in serum samples of patients suffering f...
متن کاملAge Specific Reference Levels of Serum Prostate-Specific Antigen, Prostate Volume and Prostate Specific Antigen Density in Healthy Iranian Men
Background: It is relevant to highlight that there is not a precise and perfect report on either 95 percentile value (upper limit of normal range) or on appropriate reference intervals for serum PSA in Iranian population. Objective: To determine age-specific reference ranges for serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentration and PSA density (PSAD) and prostate volumes in a population of he...
متن کاملResponse of prostate volume, prostate-specific antigen, and testosterone to flutamide in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Patients diagnosed as having benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) had determination of prostate volume (PV), prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and serum testosterone before consideration for entry into a double-blind, randomized trial of flutamide (750 mg/day for 6 months). The mean PSA level for these patients (N = 43) was 7.6 ng/ml (range: 1.0 to 45.7), and the mean PV was 76.8 cm3 (range: 24 to...
